“What happens when…”
These three words inevitably become part of every client conversation. While your specific questions may vary, the assurances clients look for are the same:
What happens when I am no longer here or able to make life’s critical decisions?
Your best interest is my only interest
Establishing an estate plan is personal and can often be an emotional experience. I understand this and consider it a privilege to walk you through the estate planning process with the utmost care and empathy for your personal situation.
I provide a clear roadmap free of surprises or unexpected charges. It’s an approach rooted in setting expectations up front, taking time to educate clients on estate planning basics, and diving deeper into complex issues only as they arise and are deemed necessary.
“I see my role as your attorney in these terms: to make the estate planning process straightforward, efficient, and affordable.”
ESTATE PLANNING
Why an estate plan is necessary
Everyone can benefit from having an estate plan. Your personalized plan is a thoughtful and proactive way to ensure everything you care about gets the care it deserves — while also minimizing legal complications that will otherwise will be unavoidable.
By mapping your estate plan now, you remove the potential for your loved ones to need to make difficult decisions in the future when emotions could cloud judgment and impact your preferred path.
ESTATE PLANNING
Three pillars of your plan
In its simplest form, an estate plan ensures legal documents are in place that give authority to individuals to act on one’s behalf in the event of incapacity or death.
Those actions typically consist of managing three areas of personal interest:
Heath care matters
Owned property
Distribution of valued assets
Essential documents
I will develop the appropriate documents for your personal situation and provide value-added counsel to avoid unnecessary legal challenges in the future.
Documents and counsel you can expect include:
Wills
Trusts
Financial powers of attorney
Health care powers of attorney and living wills
Real estate documents related to estate planning
Probate avoidance counseling

ABOUT
Andrew J. Marvin
I am the founder and principal attorney of Andrew Marvin Law, a law practice specializing in estate planning for individuals and families, and tailored to make the estate planning experience straightforward, efficient, and affordable.
Prior to starting my independent practice, I provided legal counsel to clients as a partner at an estate planning firm, an associate attorney at a mid-sized firm where I focused my practice on estate planning, and an associate director at the Office of Estate and Planned Giving at The Ohio State University. I hold a bachelor’s degree in political science and government from Kent State University and received my law degree (juris doctor) from the Louis D. Brandeis School of Law at the University of Louisville. I have authored various articles in legal publications, presented on estate planning topics for various community groups, and served as Chair for the Columbus Bar Association’s Estate Planning and Trust practice group.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my wife, young son, and friends. I love discovering and listening to all kinds of music. I'm also an avid football and basketball fan (Go Bucks, Browns, and Cavs!). My wife and I both grew up in Northeast Ohio, where we regularly visit to spend time with family and friends, and are happy to call Central Ohio home.
Upholding values that foster trust
Relational
“My goal in every engagement is for clients to walk away feeling like they enjoyed working with me and were comfortable throughout the process. The best part of my work is being able to talk to clients about their families and their lives.”
Reliable
“It may sound simple, but I respond to calls and emails in a timely fashion. I am organized and don’t let outstanding matters linger. If you need something from me, I’ll ensure you get it.”
Considerate
“I understand that estate planning can be an emotional subject. Every client is unique, and I realize that just because I discuss this subject matter daily does not mean you do or fully understand it. Your estate plan is one of one – unique to you – and I value the opportunity to work with you on this important aspect of your life.”
Transparent
“I discuss my fees and processes up front and offer flat fees for many engagements. I encourage clients to be open and ask questions to ensure they are comfortable working with me throughout the estate planning process.”
